Summer Learning Journey | Week 6: Activity 8: Long Place Names

Today I have completed another Summer Learning Journey activity. The Summer Learning Journey is a program that helps students keep learning throughout the Summer holidays.

I decided to attempt the kick start. For this activity, I needed to learn about long place names. I first watched all the videos to help me understand more about the activity. Once I finished watching the videos, I got started on the activity. To complete this activity, I needed to different countries and their longest place names.

The countries longest place names that I found and used in my DLO were Wales, United states, Spain, South Korea, and Belgium. Four countries I would like to visit is Greece, Spain, England, and France because these are countries I’ve always wanted to travel to but haven’t had the chance to. Another reason I would like to visit these countries is because I also seek interest in their culture.

I enjoyed this activity because I was able to use my smart searching skills to help me find information about different countries longest place names.

Today I have completed another Summer Learning Journey activity. The Summer Learning Journey is a program that helps students keep learning throughout the Summer holidays.

I decided to attempt the kick start. For this activity, I needed to create my own story. I first watched all the videos to help me understand more about the activity. Once I finished watching the videos, I got started on the activity. To complete this activity, I needed to fill in the blank spaces on the page with either names, ajectives, or nouns that would suit the sentence. By filling in the blank spaces, I was able to create a interesting beach story. Along with the story, I created a image that goes with the story.

I found this activity fun because I was able to use my imagination to help create a fun beach story.

Summer Learning Journey | Week 5: Activity 11: Creature Creation

Today I have completed another Summer Learning Journey activity. The Summer Learning Journey is a program that helps students keep learning throughout the Summer holidays.

I decided to attempt the kick start. For this activity, I needed to desing my own creature. I first watched all the videos to help me understand more about the activity. Once I finished watching the videos, I got started on the activity. To complete this activity, I needed to get creative and design my own creature. The creature I designed was a combination of a human and a goat. There is a description of my creature on the DLO.

I found this activity fun because I was able to use my creativity to desing a creature.

Summer Learning Journey | Week 4: Activity 9: Learn a Different Language

Today I have completed another Summer Learning Journey activity. The Summer Learning Journey is a program that helps students keep learning throughout the Summer holidays.

I decided to attempt the kick start. For this activity, I needed to match each sign language with the correct letter. I first watched all the videos to help me understand more about the activity . Once I finished watching the videos, I got started on the activity. To complete this activity, I needed to start matching the signs and letter by playing it as memory game.

There were five signs I had to match with their letters. The five letters that needed to be matched with their correct sign language were A, E, I, O, and U. These five letters are vowels. Vowels are letters that represent speech sounds where air leaves the mouth without any blockage by the tongue, lips, or throat. To help me complete this task and match the signs and letters, I used the knowledge I learnt about sign language when I attempted the sing without sound activity. It took me a few tries to match each vowel but I was able match all five sign languages with the letters.

I found this activity fun because I was able to play a fun game that can help with memorizing the each sign language that represents the vowels.

Summer Learning Journey | Week 4: Activity 8: Summer Graphic Design Project

Today I have completed another Summer Learning Journey activity. The Summer Learning Journey is a program that helps students keep learning throughout the Summer holidays.

I decided to attempt the kick start. For this activity, I needed to create my own summer fun poster. I first watched all the videos to help me understand more about the activity and things I could include in my poster. Once I finished watching the videos, I got started on the activity. To complete this activity, I needed to start on making a summer poster.

In the summer poster I created, it’s based at a Piha beach as I’ve decided to pick it, as it is one of the most popular beaches in Auckland. Using the line tools, I drew the sand and a ocean, and then used the shapes to help put a sun on the poster. Then I added some images that were provided on the slide onto my poster. The images I used were a person sun bathing on a chair, a star fish in sand, a beach ball in the sand, jandals, a lifebuoy, and a girl surfing. Lastly, I added the name of the beach that’s on the poster.

I found this activity fun because I was able to create a fun summer poster that could give me ideas of things I could do when I go to the beach.

Summer Learning Journey | Week 4: Activity 7: Obstacle Course Chaos

   

Today I have completed another Summer Learning Journey activity. The Summer Learning Journey is a program that helps students keep learning throughout the Summer holidays.

I decided to attempt the kick start. For this activity, I needed to create my own obstacle course. I first watched all the videos to help me understand more about the activity and things I may need to include in my course. Once I finished watching the videos, I got started on the activity. To complete this activity, I needed to start on making my own obstacle course. Some movents included in this course are over, under, and through.

In the obstacle course I created, I used pillows, blankets, a stool, and chairs. To complete this task, you would need to go through the first part by jumping on the pilliows and blankets, making sure you don’t touch the floor. Once you get to the last blanket, you would need to crawl under the stool. Then, you would need to jump over the chairs. Lastly, you need to run back to the start of the course.

I found this activity fun because I was able to create a fun challenge me and my siblings could try out and even make it a competition by timing each other.

Summer Learning Journey | Week 4: Activity 5: Hundertwasser Art

Today I have completed another Summer Learning Journey activity. The Summer Learning Journey is a program that helps students keep learning throughout the Summer holidays.

I decided to attempt the kick start. For this activity, I needed to create my own Hundertwasser art. Hundertwasser is a modern type of art made by Friedensreich Hundertwasser who used his creativity, and used the nature around him as inspiration, I first watched all the videos to help me understand more about this type of art and it’s creator.

Once I finished watching the videos, I got started on the activity. To complete this activity, I needed to start on making my own Hundertwasser artwork. In the artwork I created, I made sure to include the 4 techniques commonly used, which are lollipop trees, onion domes, raindrops, and no straight lines.

I found this activity fun because I was able to learn a new type of abstract art by learning how to create my own Hundertwasser artwork.

Summer Learning Journey | Week 4: Activity 6: Sing Without Sound

Today I have completed another Summer Learning Journey activity. The Summer Learning Journey is a program that helps students keep learning throughout the Summer holidays.

I decided to attempt the kick start. For this activity, I needed to match the letters with the correct sign language. I first watched all the videos to help me understand the activity. Once I finished watching the videos, I got started on the activity. To complete this activity, I needed to make a copy of a slide to be able to match each sign language and letter. Once I made a copy, I watched the video provided on the slide and then started matching each letter with the sign language images.

I found this activity fun because I was able to learn a new type of way to communicate with others, which could become useful in the future.

Today I have completed another Summer Learning Journey activity. The Summer Learning Journey is a program that helps students keep learning throughout the Summer holidays.

I decided to attempt both kick start and step it up activty. For this Te Reo Maori activity, I needed to create a DLO showing examples of the opposites of topics. I first watched all the videos to help me understand the activity. Once I finished watching the videos, I got started on the activity. To complete this activity, I needed to think of three things and the opposite of it. Once I thought of these three topics, I added them onto a DLO with images as an examle of the opposite topics.

For the step it up activity, I needed to do the same as the kick start activity but I needed to use the three words provided on the Summer Learning Journey website. After watching all the videos and seeing the examples, I got started on the activity. To complete this activity, I first needed to find the opposite of the words on the website by using Maori Dictionary. After finding the opposite of the words, I did the same with words like I did on the kick start activity by puting them on a DLO, and using images as an example of the words.

I found this activity interesting and challenging because I found it a bit hard to find translate the words and find the opposites of it, but I also found it as a great way to help my Te Reo Maori.

Summer Learning Journey | Week 4: Activity 3: Musical Fractions

Today I have completed another Summer Learning Journey activity. The Summer Learning Journey is a program that helps students keep learning throughout the Summer holidays.

I decided to attempt the kick start. For this poetry slam activity, I needed to create my own rhythm using fractions. I first watched all the videos to help me understand the activity. Once I finished watching the videos, I got started on the activity. To complete this activity, I needed to create a pattern of fractions that add up to 4. The order of the fractions I used to create my pattern was 1/4, 2/4, 1/4, which adds up to 4. When I finished creating my pattern, I practiced the rhythm by clapping.

I found this activity fun because I was able to practice my fractions by creating unique patterns and rhythms.
