Silhouette Bird Art

LI: To learn how to use tone, blending and different brush strokes with paint.

We have been learning how to corporate tones, blending and brush strokes with our art using paint. We chose a bird that is endemic to New Zealand and researched five facts about them. We chose birds because the New Zealand bird of the year award is going to be announced soon on the 31st of October.

I found this activity challenging because I needed to make sure I use the right colours that will blend good together, and will be light enough to see the birds but I was able to follow all of these.

Whale Tails

LI: To create a design for our LS2 whale tail that tells a story

My whale tail design is based on Harakeke plant and also known as flax. The bottom part of my whale tail is a Harakeke that is growing. The top part of my whale tail is based on the story of “The three Kete of Knowledge” which is why I drew three kete’s. This relates to the Harakeke because the kete is made out of the flax that is on the outside.

Bee Art

This is called the insect art, which is using natural resources to make an artwork of an insect. We created a bee.

The items we used were small branches with leaves, twigs, leaves, bark, and flowers. The items we found was fallen onto the ground because we are trying to be sustainable, with the products we were going to use.

Once we created the bee, we decided to use the leftover material and make a tree out of the branches, and used the other sticks to make the ground. We also created the word “bee” as there were still left in our basket.

We enjoyed doing this activity because it made use our creativity more and it taught us how to improvise with the materials we had to create an artwork.
