Relationships

LI: To understand the roles in a relationship and understand what a working partnership looks like

To help us understand the vocabulary in this task we defined each word then worked collaboratively to ‘tell me, show me and explain to me’ what these words mean.

This activity was helpful because it showed me what you could be in a good relationship.

Manners | PB4L

LI: To use manners and show respect to adults and visitors

Manners are actions and words that show you’re polite and respectful. Respect is having positive feeling/attitude to someone or something.

Using manners towards adults and visitors are important because it shows that you are polite and respectful. Manners is a good way to start and understand a good relationship. Showing manners make others think you’re trustworthy and responsible. Ways you can show manners can be: using the person’s proper name, not talking back to adults, wearing the correct uniform, etc.

This activity is important because it reminds us ways we can be respectful and polite to adults or visitors.

Text Based Evidence

LI: To find evidence in the text to support your answer

This week our group read the text Family Photographs. After reading the text and thinking about the information in the article our challenge was to support the statements based on the questions given. This means also looking at the photos for clues and ideas to give us more information.

This activity was interesting because it helped us learn what type of evidence we need to support a information text.

How Aotearoa came to be

LI: To digitally design the North and South Island based on how they were described in the story

We watched the story of how Maūi fished up the North Island and how his voyage to visit his mother Papatūānuku resulted in the creation of the South Island. Our challenge was to digitally design the North and South Island based on how the Myth and Legend depicted them to look.

Click here if you want to watch the story

This activity was  interesting because I was able to learn more about the Maori culture.

Relationships

LI: To strengthen our trust with others

This activity was about having trust between our classmates to see how well we could cooperate. We each had a pencil and paper, and drew something on the paper while putting the paper on the back of our pairs. The person who was drawing against a surface was attempting to mimic their partners drawing as best as they could. This would let us improve our confidence and teamwork with each other.

This activity was fun because it helped me build up my trust while doing an activity.

Dot to Dot Connections – Relationships

LI: To draw the lines between the words to show the connections you have made.

To help us strengthen our connections to our new topic of Relationships we worked collaboratively to draw lines between words we thought connected. The example I have chosen to share is the connection between understanding and opinions. These words have a connection because in a relationship, the people included should understand each others opinions.

This activity was fun because it helped me build a better relationship with others.

Current Events

LI: To identify the author’s purpose.

This week for Reading we learnt about author’s purpose. Authors write for a purpose/reason. These reasons are to Persuade, Inform, Explain or Entertain (PIE).

We looked at Kiwi Kids News, Kea Kidz, NZ Herald and Radio NZ to find articles to match the purpose we were searching for. We then created a new map in Google my maps, plotted the event on a map, added the link to the article, added the author’s purpose, an image and sumarised the information.

I found this activity interesting because it gave me an oppertunity to catch up with recent events.

Cinquain Poem

LI: To write a cinquain poem to describe a leader who inspires you

This term we have been building our leadership skills. Our challenge today was to write a cinquain poem to help us strengthen our connections to description that describes leaders who inspire us.

A cinquain poem has 5 lines. Each line has a different purpose. Line 1 is a noun which is a name. Line 2 has 2 adjectives that describe the noun. Line 3 has 3 verbs that end in ‘ing’ and describe the actions. Line 4 is a noun phrase which is a group of words (not a sentence) that go together to describe the noun. Line 5 is a synonym which is a word with a similar meaning to the noun.

This activity was fun because it gave me an opportunity to learn how to write a cinquain poem.

Vision Board

LI: To set and visualise our goal for 2022

A vision board helps us to visualise our goals and what we want to achieve. This is a part of our Careers learning as we know we will need to be setting goals to help us achieve the career goals we want to achieve in the future.

My board shows some goals I want to accomplish at school, for example: blog more often, get an award, etc. There are some other goals like learning more about my culture, travel somewhere new, stay safe from covid, and more.

This activiy was interesting because it helped think about my main intentions this year.

Rounding & Compensating

This week I have been learning about rounding and compensating. Rounding and compensating is rounding the number to the nearest tidy 10. First, I learnt how to use the strategy and why we should use it. Next, I started solving addition problems using this strategy. Lasty, I created a DLO explaining how the strategy works. It needed to include a example, instructions and a definition.

What I enjoyed during this activity was learning a new way to solve math equations.
