Katahi ahau ka tuhi ko te waahi i whiriwhiria e au kei roto i Te Reo Maori, ara ko Moeraki Boulders Beach kei Te Waipounamu.

Today I have completed another Summer Learning Journey activity. The Summer Learning Journey is a program that helps students keep learning throughout the Summer holidays. The task today was to create a postcard.

I decided to attempt the kick start activity. The task was to create a post card about a place I want to visit. First, I made a copy of a google slide and inserted a place I want to visit as the background. I then wrote where the place I chose is in Te Reo Maori, which was the Moeraki Boulders Beach that is located in the South Island. Lastly, I put a photo of me on the DLO making it look like I’m at Moeraki Boulders Beach.

I found this activity fun because I was able to expand my Te Reo Maori and be able to show others where I would like to visit.

Summer Learning Journey | Week 1: Activity 3: It’s Cool to be Kind

Today I have completed another Summer Learning Journey activity. The Summer Learning Journey is a program that helps students keep learning throughout the Summer holidays. The task today was to post a positive comment on someone elses blog.

I decided to attempt the step it up activity, meaning I needed to write comment in Te Reo Maori. I decided to post a comment on Fotu’s blog post on the first SLJ activity which was the treasure hunt. To help me write a comment in Maori, I used a google slide that included Maori phrases that can help me write me write my comment. Once I finished writing my blogpost, I posted my comment and took a screenshot of it to show others what I wrote on my comment.

I found this activity challenging because I found it difficult to write a comment in Maori using the same structure I usually do.

Summer Learning Journey | Week 1-Activity 2: Poetry Slam Tahi

Today I have completed another Summer Learning Journey activity. The Summer Learning Journey is a program that helps students keep learning throughout the Summer holidays. The task today to write down ideas for the next poetry slam activites.

On a google slide, I needed to write down ideas that relate to the word on the first 4 slides. The ideas a wrote down were ideas I could use if they were related to the main words I was writing my ideas around. These ideas are related to things that happen during the summer season. These ideas will help me write poems for the up coming poetry slam activities.

I found this activity helpful because I was able to think of some ideas that could help make the next poetry slam activites easier and help me complete it faster.

Summer Learning Journey | Activity 1: Treasure Hunt

Today the Summer Learning Journey has started. The Summer Learning Journey is a program that helps students keep learning throughout the Summer holidays. The task today was to go on a treasure hunt for items we need to create a tool kit.

The items we needed to find was some string, a tube, something with a small amount of weight, paper, cardboard, something we can use to measure the size of something, clear plastic, something to write, draw, or colour with, and as a bounus, something that can hold our items.

The items we collected we objects we found around the class room. The items we collected were string/wool, a tube made out of paper, a dice that weighs a small amount, paper, a piece of cardboard, ruler, clear plastic, colouring pencils, and a trey to hold all our items. On a google draw, we put a photo of our items on it and label each item we have collected.

I found this activity helpful because I infer that this activity was to help us collect things we might need to complete other tasks.

Summer Learning Journey Teaser | Activity 4: Kick Start & Step It Up

Today I’ve completed another Summer Learning Journey teasers. The teasers are activities will prepare you and show you what the activites are like when the Summer Learning Journey actually starts.

For this activity, I needed to explore painting with music, also known as Kandinsky. For the kick start activity, I created my own Kandinsky art by listening to music. The different colours used are to represent different emotions I feel when listening to music, eg: The yellow/gold was used because I felt a sense of happiness by how the tone of the music sound.

For the step it up activity, I used a website to help me learn to paint with music by turning the paint brsuh into musical instruments. Click here to listen to my artwork.

I found this activity fun because I was able to explore a new style of art by being able to expierence it myself.

Today I’ve completed another Summer Learning Journey teasers. The teasers are activities will prepare you and show you what the activites are like when the Summer Learning Journey actually starts.

For this activity, I needed to creat an artwork on the Black Ferns and the use of poi. After watching the videos and looking at the example, I created my own artwork. My artwork was mostly bsaed on a poi that was black and white to represent the colours of the Black Ferns team. On one of the poi, it has a black fern which is the Black Ferns logo, and on the one it says ‘Black Ferns’. Next to the poi, it says ‘Wahine Toa’ meaning warrior women and is also a series about the Black Ferns.

I found this activity fun because I found it a fun way to learn about the Black Ferns and use of poi, and it can also help raise awareness of womens rugby and the Maori culture.

Summer Learning Journey Teaser | Activity 2: Kick Start

Today I’ve completed another Summer Learning Journey teasers. The teasers are activities will prepare you and show you what the activites are like when the Summer Learning Journey actually starts.

For todays activity, we needed to learn about the Samoan flag. After researching about the flag, I learnt what the colours and stars on the flag symbolizes. Using the information I learnt, I displayed it onto a DLO explaining the different meanings of the flag.

An interesting fact I learnt was that the colours on the flag was chosen to represent purity, freedom, and courage.

I found this activity helpful because I was able to learn new facts about this cultures flag during this activity.

Summer Learning Journey Teaser | Activity 1: Kick Start

This week we have started on our Summer Learning Journey teasers. The teasers are activities that will prepare you and show you what the activites are like when the Summer Learning Journey actually starts.

For todays activity, we needed to unleash our inner artist by learning about different artworks from different cultures. After exploring a variety of artworks, we could colour other templates from the art colouring book. Since I attempted the kick start, the artworks were about different celebrations such as, Kwanzaa, Christmas, Diwali, etc.

The artwork I decided to colour in was related to Kwanzaa. An interesting fact about Kwanzza is that Kwanzaa has 7 candles (3 red, 3 green, and 1 black cande) that represent 7 different principles.

I found this activity fun because it’s an enjoyable way to learn about different artworks that come from different cultures.
